# TARS > TARS is a Windows app for backing up and restoring supported game CFG files, undoing the last local Restore, and sharing a gaming setup profile. Steam connects the desktop app to the user's account. TARS separates private CFG backups from public profile information. Users select eligible files for Sync and choose which hardware and settings appear on their profile. Backing up a file does not publish its contents. The app preserves original CFG bytes rather than rewriting game settings. ## Available capabilities - **Private CFG backups**: Choose supported game CFG files and back up their original contents with Sync. - **Preview and Restore**: Review your downloaded CFG files, then approve restoring them to a detected game location. - **Undo the last Restore**: Return to the local CFG state from before the last Restore when its recovery files are available. - **One shareable profile**: Share selected hardware and settings through one profile link. Private CFG backups stay separate. - **NVIDIA settings Restore**: Back up supported global NVIDIA settings with Sync, then review and restore them with your approval. A prior backup and a compatible NVIDIA GPU and driver are required; available settings depend on your system. Supported games are Counter-Strike 2, Rust, Valorant, Escape from Tarkov, PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. Support covers the specific file names listed in the public guide, not arbitrary files or every game setting. The game must be installed and its CFG location detectable on the destination computer. If it is missing from the list, launch it once, close it, and check again. Restore previews downloaded files before approval. Ownership, game/target matching, size, hash, text format and explicit risk checks can block the operation. Preview and writing use the same prepared contents. These checks are not an antivirus or a guarantee that all game commands are harmless. Close the game before applying Restore. ## Release status The capabilities listed above are available; consult the guide for their verified scope. TARS does not currently restore Windows settings, automatically optimize the computer, or guarantee higher FPS. Do not treat profile sharing of a setting as proof that Restore supports it. ## Examples **Before reinstalling Windows:** Open Sync, select the supported CS2 CFG files, review the summary, and approve. Confirm all selected uploads and the final submission succeeded before erasing the local installation. TARS cannot recover a CFG file that was never backed up. **After reinstalling Windows:** Install the supported game and ensure its CFG location can be detected. Connect TARS with the same Steam account, open Restore, review the downloaded files and read-only state, and provide the required approvals. Previous local files are retained as .bak recovery copies where applicable. **Undo an unwanted Restore:** Hold “Undo last Restore” on the home screen for five seconds. Local recovery files and the recovery record must remain present and valid. Undo can work offline, but provides one last-Restore recovery point rather than an unlimited history. Formatting the computer may remove those local files. Read-only metadata is backed up separately from file contents. Older backups without metadata preserve an existing target's read-only state; newly created files are writable. Review CFG files for personal or credential data before Sync. ## Public resources - [TARS overview](https://tarspro.online/): Current product overview and download link. - [Backup, Restore and Undo guide](https://tarspro.online/guide): Requirements, examples, supported file names and feature availability. - [Guide in Markdown](https://tarspro.online/guide.md): The same English guide as plain Markdown. - [Microsoft Store](https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N7K92MZVVB5): Official Windows app listing. - [Example public profile](https://tarspro.online/u/tarky): An example of selected public setup information, not a private backup. - [Privacy Policy](https://tarspro.online/privacy): Data handling and privacy information. - [Terms of Service](https://tarspro.online/tos): Service rules.
